Reading Buddies

Reading Buddies is a volunteer-driven program that pairs caring adults with young students to foster a love for reading, build literacy skills, and boost confidence. Through weekly one-on-one reading sessions, volunteers and students gather at the Boys & Girls Club and YMCA for after-school programs.

READING BUDDIES IMPACT (2024/2025 School Year)

Many children in Charlotte County struggle to read at grade level. Reading proficiency by third grade is a key indicator of future academic and life success. Reading Buddies makes a direct, personal impact — one child, one book, one volunteer at a time.

• 64 Volunteers dedicated over 816 hours of service.
• 114 Students received support from a Reading Buddy.
• Achievement: 87% Learning Gains in Reading
• Achievement: 90% Learning Gains in Math

Charlotte County Reads: Supporting Education with Data

Thanks to a generous grant from The Patterson Foundation, Charlotte County Reads can employ a dedicated data specialist at Charlotte County Public Schools.  Our volunteers receive training based on specific school standards, and this data is used to track progress and empower our outstanding team of volunteers effectively.
