At United Way Charlotte County, we believe strong families are the foundation of a thriving community. Through programs such as Charlotte County Reads, Kids Thrive, and the Parent Advisory Circle, we connect families with the tools, education, and support they need to thrive and succeed. By investing in learning, resilience, and connection, we help families today—and empower future generations to thrive.
Kids Thrive!
A collaboration between Drug Free Charlotte County and United Way Charlotte County follows the Two-Generation (2Gen) approach. The focus is on both children and parents, promoting parent-child interactions, literacy skills, and family cohesion for long-term stability and success. UWCC funds a Navigator Advocate for this program and is part of the Kids Thrive Collaborative and a funded agency.
Charlotte County Reads
The UWCC leads a coalition with Charlotte County Public Schools, the YMCA, the Boys & Girls Club, and community volunteers. It funds literacy initiatives, coordinating volunteer efforts in after-school programs. The focus is on personalized mentoring to boost struggling readers' confidence. Volunteers and students also engage in after-school activities at the Boys & Girls Club and YMCA.
UNITED 4 YOUTH
We believe that no child should be excluded from extracurricular activities simply because their family cannot afford them. Enrichment programs—whether sports, arts, or academic clubs—help kids build confidence, friendships, and skills that last a lifetime.
Through United 4 Youth, qualifying families can receive up to $300 per child each year to cover the cost of extracurricular activities, ensuring that every child has the chance to explore their passions, thrive, and contribute to a stronger community future.
